Moving into a new apartment.. I need a table/chairs, a desk, a coffee table, and a tv stand. Where can I find these items (in GOOD condition) for cheap?
Wal-Mart (not my first choice)
or IKEA. they rule! (Better get a cordless drill first!)
Craig's List; consignment shops; local classified; yard sales.
Consignment stores and outlet furniture stores are GREAT. The sell name brand furtniture at great prices and the furniture is usually in good condition.
thrift stores or goodwill.
THE DUMP (its actually a store)
ebay
search cheap furniture online
IKEA, if you have one near you (you can also order from their catalog) but you have to put it together yourself.
Do you have Salvation Army or Goodwill Thrift shops? You might find something good in those. Even Target and Wal-mart have decent furniture (also assembly required). K-Mart, too.
India and Sri Lanka sells good furniture.
If there is a Salvation Army furniture store in your city, you will find these items in relatively good condition, very inexpensively. and if you look really well, you might find better quality furniture than you would at one of the discount stores such as WalMart, Ikea, etc.
The Goodwill or the Salvation Army is all I can think of, for furniture that is very cheap.
If you go to those consignment centers, they can have some reasonable ones, but if you want newer looking material, try going to Target. Target has IKEA looking brands that look Eurasion quality. Fourth, would be Bed, Bath, & Beyond, which is a little pricey. But stick to Target.
Check the paper classified ads for furniture. look for thrift shops, rummage sales, flea markets. Some times people put used furniture outside for garbage because they bought new furniture.
Try craigslist for your area, and also try freecycle.com for your area. I just recently used both to help one of me kids There are great deals out there!!
Ikea...you have to build everything yourself, which is how they keep the costs down. It's pretty easy though. sometimes getting the boxes home can be a problem if you don't have a truck. they deliver but it's something like $59, which I think is a bit high.
it depends on where you are, but we have used the website furniturebuzz.com and it saved us about 200-300 dollars on an entertainment center
If you need real cheap, go to the ritzier neighborhoods and go to their secondhand shops. (salvation army, red cross, etc.) Since they get their stuff from the local people, its a lot nicer than you'd find in the other part of town. plus, since they have more money to blow, they usually get rid of things that are super nice and almost new and perfectly usable. I got a beautiful solid wood desk cabinet for $50, and a brand new clean BIG couch for $70. it fits my husband, myself and my daughter, laying down!
If you're not looking for that, I second IKEA.
Though I do shop Walmart frequently, I would not recommend their furniture-its massed produced cheap as possible, and you will be replacing it soon.
Big yard sales. Thrift shops. News papers.
Check your local classified ads for furnature and yard sales, drive around on a Saturday and Sunday morning looking for yard sales EARLY, before others to get the best deals.
I once found an all maple rocker in the back of an antique fishing supply place. it was under some junk, had been there forever and I got it for next to nothing. So when you have an afternoon off, get out and look around.
Good will, Salvation Army, etc sometimes get pretty good things but you have to be there when they are put it out if they are very good. sometimes you can find really good furnature in places that deal just with that. look carefully. sometimes if you do a refinishing job, you can end up with something really nice.
Remember, people who get new furnature have to get rid of the old furnature, so they are usually glad to have someone take it off their hands.
Pier 1 has a lot of great furniture- and a lot of times they will sell the floor model for 25-30 percent off- they also get rid of new furniture to make way for others. They'll have red tags on their furniture. they have coupons that come in the mail also- and e-mail. Good luck!- I agree quality furniture is nice you dont want toget sick of it in a year and throw it away. ikeas stuff falls apart so easily- and causes major assembly.
I was going to sy IKEA.......it is cheap, but not good.
Where can I find cheap (but good!) furniture?
