With the continued growth in home entertainment many home owners are choosing to install an under cabinet TV in their kitchen. unlike the standard kitchen TV that most of us are familiar with, an under cabinet TV is attached to the underside of a nearby cabinet and operates upside down. this unconventional design approach frees up valuable counter space plus the screen can be folded away out of sight when not in use.
In addition, the latest models now come with other desirable features, such as DVD player, magnetic remote, AM/FM radio and clock timer. not surprisingly this level of convenience and space saving design have made the under cabinet LCD TV a sought after option for any home remodeling project or kitchen upgrade.
To get the most out of your new under cabinet TV it is vitally important to pick the right location. unlike a typical portable TV the under cabinet TV must be permanently attached to a cabinet. Moving to a new location at a later date will be clumbersome and time consuming. Spending a few minutes now to select the optimal position is time well spent.
First, consider the layout of your kitchen and where you spend most of your time. for most home chefs this is frequently near the sink or stove, or where food items are prepared. from this vantage point look for a nearby cabinet that you can see easily without having to crane your neck. Depending on your kitchen layout there might be several possible locations to consider.
Now that you have a possible mount point, the next thing is to look for nearby wiring connections. At the very least you are going to need a power outlet and if you plan on using cable as your signal feed then you will also need a nearby cable jack. If your under cabinet TV installation is part of a larger kitchen remodeling project then be sure to allow for the necessary wiring to be included early on in the design. Running cables after the fact can be quite expensive.
Fortunately, most kitchens usually have a few built-in power outlets that are used for common kitchen appliances such as food mixers and coffee grinders. If so you should be able to position the TV close to where you need it.
At this point you are ready for the installation. Carefully read through the instructions provided by the manufacturer. In most cases you will use a paper template that has the position of the mounting holes printed on it. Temporarily tape the template to the underside of the cabinet and drill the required holes as specified in the instructions. Bolts passed through the cabinet holes and into the TV's base unit are used to secure the TV in place. If your cabinet has a valence or overhang, you may need to include some spacers so as the TV's control panel is accessible after the unit is bolted into position.
Connect the power supply and signal feed and check that everything is working normally. You're now ready to enjoy your new space saving kitchen entertainment.
