I just got an old wooden side table. it is old, looks worn, and even has some water stains. it has a bit of a red oak color. I still think it can be given a new life by staining it.
Can someoe give me some advice on how to do this, maybe a web site where I can find detailed instructions?
you first have to give it a light sanding with 100 or 120 grit paper, clean it off good with a tack cloth, choose a stain that will mask the water stains, darker is better, rub your stain in with a cloth, old cotton t-shirt or something similar.be careful not to overlap or you will have dark lines.then finish with a poly if you choose.

Vinegar water. Vinegar will dissolve the hard water stains for you. Play around with the vinegar/water strength until it works for you. You may want to try using one of those "scrubbies" sponges with the nylon net on one side...the kind that are safe for teflon pans. Good luck!
